If you have to ask that you probably had never had an encounter with an evil and angry ghost trying to hurt you or possess you.

Their (after death experience) is not what they expected and are afraid and confused with their present state of being. The existence they are experiencing now is different from what they have been accustomed to here on earth.The teachings they learned while alive were incomplete and inaccurate. They yearn for this life and all they have lost. They cling to this world and try to communicate with us. Some have just decided to hang around as though they had never died at all. Others make it a mission to trying to find answers to why they are where they are. Sometimes they show us their physical form as best they can and others are just in their purest form of a mass-less mist and or a ball of energy. Some were angry hateful people and they took this energy with them and display it to those of us that they come in contact with. Others were caring loving people and they hang around doing what they did in life. Maybe what is beyond is just not attractive enough to over power their need to be with loved ones here. Maybe they weren’t religious enough or too religious to abandon their families.Unfinished business can way heavy on any ones mind and heart. This can give way to a very strong emotion that can control any ones decision making. For what ever their individual reason they simply aren’t ready to move on. You have to think of them as individuals. You can’t just group their reasoning all under a single category. They are individuals now and when they had human form.

Most ghosts are spirits from your family/ancestors that are watching and guiding you (if you tune in). We dont go to some fruitbowl in the sky with harps and a dude in a robe..we stay here yet a dimension removed

i think the theory came from peopel being haunted and bothered by outside forces

Ghost are not alive so their existence is considered haunting. It can be a positive, negative, or even neutral. Sometimes people have a such a strong connection with their home they refuse to live it. People used to have a stronger connection with their home. People would often start building a home before or right after their marriage. These people would live & die in their home. In death they refuse to give it up to anyone, they feel they are still the owner. Sometimes they is unsolved mystery surrounding a death, or the cause of death was not correct. This is especially in suicides. It was considered very shameful to commit suicide. A dark shadow would be cast over the family. Sometimes these suicides were actually murders. Because of all the pain & shame the spirit would refuse to leave. They desperately try to communicate with the living as an attempt to clear their name & expose the truth about their death. Some cannot rest until the truth is known. Some are just their as protectors watching for their love ones. On a negative end, a soul holds on, out of fear. Their negativity they has been absorbed into the house helps bind their spirit & avoid punishment on the other-side. Some are just people that haven’t found the strength to let go of the life they knew.

i don’t think they are haunting us per se but are haunted in their spirit. those that haunt are those that are spiritually homeless. they are lost or evil. it is difficult to tell which though. better to not taunt and tease these entities as they can repay in kind and scare the living bejesus out of you.
