I work in the field ( paranormal investigator) and we do approach the subject of “hunting’s” scientifically these days ….we use numerous monitors meters etc to record data which is analyzed vigorously before we deem a house “haunted”……..

Even though I am all about the science, I’ll admit that it can look boring to outsiders. They need money, so they throw in some psuedoscience to dazzle viewers and raise ratings.

They like to put some stuff that people might find an interest in. If all they did was science then most of the time the discovery channel would be boring.

To be a truly good scientist, one needs to keep an open mind. The phenomena of ghost sightings is too common, and too detailed to be totally disregarded. It deserves inquiry and scrutiny (but please, for the love of all things holy, spare us the electromagnetic field guages).
Unfortunately, “A Haunting” or whatever they’re calling thier new ghost show doesn’t offer any scientific investigation, just a dramatic recreation of eyewitness accounts that are very likely to be flawed.

For popularity, ratings, and advertiser money.

First off, I am a “scientist”. I hold a Ph.D in Paranormal Psychology from the University of the West Indies, a world-class, accredited institute of learning. Secondly, I am a Paranormal Investigator/Researcher, a “Ghost Hunter” or “Spookchaser”, if you will. I have traveled the world and plied my profession in more than a dozen countries as well as a number of states in the U.S. And, I cannot “spare” the EMF, or electromagnetic field detectors, which I utilize with great success. Sorry Argon, but that’s like asking an eletrician to discard his volt meter, or a surgeon his scalpel. Amy, only in the U.S. is serious research into the Paranormal considered “peudo-science”. We are behind the world, and the times. Also, east2west, “old ladies” do not, for the most part, watch Discovery or other science-oriented programs. Lifetime is more their speed. So, targeting them, in any respect, would obviously be a waste of time, resourses and lots of capital. In this, Big Bruce is right on the money. If anyone of you are ever visiting New Orleans I’ll be more than happy to take you to some Paranormally Active places where you can find some Ghosts for yourself. Bring your camera, I’ll even loan you an Electromagnetic Field Detector to assist you.
