You need some clues to work from. You start
by asking people who might know something.
Ask the people who sold you the house or the
neighbors about who lived there before. You
need something to narrow things down. You
can’t look through every newspaper for 100
years… and death records are often kept in
various odd locations…hospitals, churches,
county records offices, etc. Older records are
not going to be online and people without wills
leave less of a trail.
I just finished a search that did turn up the
death certificate that matched the spirit but
most times we never find out for sure. In the
end, who they were isn’t as important as
resolving the problem. Contact a Priestess
who can assist the spirit to complete their
journey and attain peace. That helps them,
and you will never see them again after that.

You can go through ownership records but not tenant records. Archived papers are a good way to find info on deaths and suicides. Why are you blaming the house though? Ghosts can attach to humans (do you have deceased relative yo were very close to), or even artifacts in a home (have you purchased something recently that could be an, ie a military jacket, an old desk, even a rug, etc). Ghosts are often associated with places but we tend to forget they are just as associated with other people or things. Is this being a noise maker, a follower, a talker, etc? That may help associate the spirit with what they are attached to.

I would start at your local library and go through old newspapers.
