Yes.
Even tho there are SO many skeptics out there, they still have the NEED to experience a paranormal phenomena. Ha!! That is kinda funny!
You need to think about where they died most likely was not the way it is today.
What is now run down, burned out, or just overgrown, was not the way it was back then.

With ghosts being one of the new trends I think that having some sort of ‘paranormal’ agenda would be great for tourism. Look at the Queen Mary and how they are monopolizing on the ghostly experiences reported over the years on the ship.
The Winchester Mystery house does the same thing.
Both places are historic and they also welcome the people interested in the ghost experiences. I think other old historical sites (like the MIssion Inn in Riverside and Del Coronado Hotel in San Diego, Calif) should follow their lead and give ‘haunted history’ tours as well. People love a good ghost story and people will pay good money to sleep in a room that is specifically reported to be haunted.

OK you found out the cash in value of run down dumps…
YES, there is a fortune made every year on ghoust tours and all of the sorts. This does not mean that you will see or experience anything other than a lighter wallet.

tours are about making money off of peoples gullability. They trot people around from site to site, give you an oral history, and pack you off to get in the next group.

Yes. However, they also promote business in cities and locations that are already tourist attractions. In San Antonio, Texas (7th largest city in the U.S.) one can choose to stay in many hotels (several have reported ghost(s)). The Alamo (a huge tourist destination) also has ghost stories associated with it.
To the second part of your question: Maybe ghosts are trying to tell us the same thing that historians have been trying to teach us for years and that is no location or city is safe from falling from grace. Many cities went away when the railroads bypassed them. Cities today could vanish if Air traffic suddenly rerouted to somewhere else, if they run out water, or if they have to depend on the intelligence of FEMA to help rebuild them after a natural disaster.

A star for you! Good question! I’ve been to many places where ghosts are reported to be, like the Winchester House and Old City Hall in Toronto, but have not taken the tours, just poked around on my own. I need to tell you if anything weird happened colour me gone! Would it make me visit some nowhere in the wilds of Nevada (for instance), no way!
By the way, what is that a picture of (in your avatar space) it’s making me crazy that I can’t figure it out!

I think if I owned a 800 year old castle, or 150 year old mansion and needed to pay off some property taxes, sure there would be some ghosts in certain parts of the place. The tours and gift shop are a must! You could install refrigerated pipes in the walls of a room to give it that “cold” effect.

Ghost tours is one way to make a living off this hobby. If tourist would not go then there is no business.
