Ghosts hang around until they accept the fact that they are dead, or until they achieve or give up on whatever they’re trying to accomplish by sticking around the place(s) they frequented during life. They cannot be “erased,” but they can sometimes be persuaded to move on, particularly if they are told this by people who are still alive (they sometimes ignore people who aren’t).

Ghosts cannot be gotten rid of by an electromagnetic pulse. Rather that might actually attract them. They are not entities of matter/energy. When a ghost decides to leave, it does just that, often going into an area where the physical cannot go, that is outside the three dimensions that we currently recognize.
